The UEFA Super Cup 2023 was the 48th edition of this annual football match organized by UEFA, featuring the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The match was contested by English club Manchester City, the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League winners, and Spanish club Sevilla, the 2022–23 UEFA Europa League winners. It took place at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, on 16 August 2023.
After a 1–1 draw in regular time, Manchester City triumphed 5–4 in a penalty shootout, securing their first UEFA Super Cup title.

UEFA Super Cup 2023 Summary
The 2023 UEFA Super Cup saw Manchester City and Sevilla battle to a 1–1 draw before Manchester City secured victory 5–4 in a penalty shootout. The match, played at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, was filled with thrilling moments.
Manchester City nearly took the lead in the 8th minute when Nathan Aké’s header was saved by Sevilla’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou. Jack Grealish also had a shot saved by Bounou in the 17th minute. However, it was Sevilla who struck first in the 25th minute, with Youssef En-Nesyri heading in a cross from Marcos Acuña to give Sevilla a 1–0 lead.
In the second half, En-Nesyri had another chance to extend Sevilla’s lead after being set up by Lucas Ocampos, but his effort was saved by City’s goalkeeper, Ederson. Manchester City equalized in the 63rd minute when Cole Palmer headed in a cross from Rodri.
Despite more chances, including another save by Bounou from a Palmer effort and a header from Aké that was tipped over, the match ended 1–1 after 90 minutes, leading to a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, both teams converted their first four penalties. Manchester City’s captain, Kyle Walker, scored their fifth penalty. Sevilla’s Nemanja Gudelj then missed his penalty, hitting the crossbar, which handed Manchester City their first UEFA Super Cup title with a 5–4 win on penalties.
