The match was contested by English club Manchester City, the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League winners, and Spanish club Sevilla, the 2022–23 UEFA Europa League winners. It took place at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, on 16 August 2023.
After a 1–1 draw in regular time, Manchester City triumphed 5–4 in a penalty shootout, securing their first UEFA Super Cup title.

Manchester City nearly took the lead in the 8th minute when Nathan Aké’s header was saved by Sevilla’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou. Jack Grealish also had a shot saved by Bounou in the 17th minute. However, it was Sevilla who struck first in the 25th minute, with Youssef En-Nesyri heading in a cross from Marcos Acuña to give Sevilla a 1–0 lead.
