UEFA Europa League 2024-25 was the 54th edition of UEFA’s secondary club football tournament and the 16th since its rebranding from the UEFA Cup. This season introduces a new format, replacing the traditional 32-team group stage with a 36-team league phase. As a result, the number of matches (excluding qualifiers) has increased from 141 to 189. Under this new system, clubs eliminated from the Champions League can no longer move into the Europa League knockout rounds. Additionally, the Europa League titleholders—such as Atalanta, who won in 2023–24—are now unable to defend their title if they qualify directly for the Champions League.
The final is set to take place on May 21, 2025, at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain. Tottenham Hotspur won their 3rd title and earn a spot in the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League league phase and will also face the Champions League winner in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.

Knockout phase play-offs
In the knockout phase of the competition, teams compete in two-legged ties—one home and one away—except for the final, which is decided in a single match. The knockout bracket is partially pre-determined using a seeding system, with teams’ placements based on their final standings in the league phase.
There is no country protection during the knockout rounds, meaning clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other at any stage. Additionally, teams may face opponents they already encountered in the league phase.

The draw mechanism for each round of the knockout phase is structured as follows:
- In the knockout phase play-off draw, the eight teams that finished the league phase in positions 9–16 were designated as seeded, while those finishing in positions 17–24 were unseeded. The draw was divided into four sections according to the predetermined bracket structure. Each seeded team within a section was paired with one of two possible unseeded opponents. As part of the seeding advantage, the seeded teams hosted the second leg of their respective ties.
- In the Round of 16 draw, the eight teams that finished the league phase in positions 1–8 were seeded, while the eight winners from the knockout phase play-offs were unseeded. As with the previous round, the draw was divided into four sections following the predetermined bracket format. Each seeded team within a section was matched against one of two possible unseeded opponents, and the seeded teams were granted the advantage of hosting the second leg.
- For the quarter-finals and semi-finals, the matchups were fully determined in advance according to the tournament bracket. A draw was held solely to decide which team would host the first leg of each tie. In the final, which is played at a neutral venue, the winner of semi-final 1 will be considered the “home” team for administrative purposes.
