UEFA Super Cup 2009 was the 34th UEFA Super Cup, an annual football match between the winners of the previous season’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions. The 2009 UEFA Super Cup featured a match between the 2008–09 UEFA Champions League winners, Barcelona, and the 2008–09 UEFA Cup winners, Shakhtar Donetsk. The game took place at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on 28 August 2009, following the UEFA Champions League and Europa League draws at the Grimaldi Forum. Barcelona won their third UEFA Super Cup title and completed a successful year for the club, having also won the Champions League, La Liga, and the Copa del Rey in 2009.
This was the first encounter between the two teams since their meeting in Group C of the previous season’s Champions League competition.
