UEFA Super Cup 2005 Champions, final match and achievements

UEFA Super Cup 2005 was the 30th edition of the annual UEFA Super Cup. The annual UEFA Super Cup contested between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup. Liverpool were appearing in the Super Cup for the fifth time, having won the competition in 1977 and 2001. CSKA Moscow were appearing in the Super Cup for the first time, the first Russian team to appear in the competition.
Liverpool and CSKA Moscow qualified for the 2005 UEFA Super Cup by winning the two major European tournaments. Liverpool claimed the 2004–05 UEFA Champions League title after a dramatic 3–3 draw and a 3–2 victory in a penalty shoot-out against AC Milan. CSKA Moscow won the 2004–05 UEFA Cup, defeating Sporting CP 3–1.
In front of 17,042 spectators, CSKA opened the scoring with a goal from Daniel Carvalho in the first half. Liverpool equalized in the 82nd minute through substitute Djibril Cissé, sending the game into extra time. Cissé struck again in the 103rd minute, putting Liverpool ahead, followed by a third goal from Luis García. Liverpool held their lead to secure a 3–1 victory, marking their third Super Cup win.
