DFB-Pokal 2016-17 Champions, matches, fact and achievement

DFB-Pokal 2016-17 was the 74th season of the annual German football cup competition. The 2016–17 DFB-Pokal featured 64 teams, including clubs from the prior Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga seasons. The tournament began on 19 August 2016 and concluded on 27 May 2017 with the final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion, the designated neutral venue since 1985. Organized by the German Football Association (DFB), the DFB-Pokal is considered the second-most prestigious German club competition, following the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich entered as defending champions, having won the previous final against Borussia Dortmund on penalties. However, Bayern were eliminated in the semi-finals by Dortmund, who went on to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt 2–1 in the final, capturing their fourth DFB-Pokal title and their first since 2012.

Champion qualification
The DFB-Pokal winner earns an automatic spot in the UEFA Europa League group stage for the following season. However, because Borussia Dortmund, the 2016–17 DFB-Pokal champions, had already secured a UEFA Champions League spot by finishing third in the Bundesliga, the Europa League group stage spot transferred to Hertha BSC, who finished sixth in the league. Consequently, SC Freiburg, who finished seventh, earned the league’s second Europa League qualifying round spot. As DFB-Pokal champions, Dortmund also hosted the 2017 DFL-Supercup, where they faced the Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, at the start of the 2017–18 season.
