Club World Cup 2016 was the 13th edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, a FIFA-organized international club football tournament between the winners of the six continental confederations, as well as the host nation’s league champions. The tournament was hosted by Japan.
The 2016 FIFA Club World Cup marked the second time, and the first since 2008, that the CONMEBOL representative was not from Argentina or Brazil. Barcelona, the previous champions, were unable to defend their title as they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2015–16 UEFA Champions League.
Real Madrid claimed their second FIFA Club World Cup title by defeating the host team, Kashima Antlers, 4–2 after extra time in the final.
