The match was held on 10 August 2022 at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland.
This encounter was a historic one, as it marked the first European club competition fixture to feature the Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT). The match also carried historical significance as a repeat of the 1960 European Cup final, where Real Madrid triumphed 7–3.

In the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, Eintracht Frankfurt had an early opportunity to take the lead in the 14th minute when Daichi Kamada found himself in a one-on-one situation with Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois. However, Courtois made a crucial save to deny Kamada. Later in the 36th minute, Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior attempted a low shot, but Eintracht’s goalkeeper Kevin Trapp got down quickly to his left to make the save.
The breakthrough for Real Madrid came from the ensuing corner. Casemiro headed the ball back from the right end line, setting up David Alaba, who tapped the ball into the net from close range, giving Madrid a 1–0 lead. In the second half, Trapp made another important save in the 55th minute, but Real Madrid continued to press. Just two minutes later, Casemiro nearly doubled the lead but saw his effort hit the crossbar.
The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Vinícius Júnior delivered a pass from the left to Karim Benzema, who struck a shot that Trapp was unable to keep out, making it 2–0 in favor of Real Madrid. This secured their victory and their fifth UEFA Super Cup title.
