UEFA Super Cup 2004 was the 29th UEFA Super Cup, an annual association football match contested by the winners of the previous season’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions. Porto earned their place in the 2004 UEFA Super Cup by winning the 2003–04 UEFA Champions League with a 3–0 victory over Monaco, marking their third Super Cup appearance after a win in 1987 and a loss in 2003. Valencia, the 2003–04 UEFA Cup champions after defeating Marseille, were making their second appearance, having won their first in 1980.
In front of 17,292 fans, Rubén Baraja opened the scoring for Valencia around the 30-minute mark, followed by Marco Di Vaio’s goal midway through the second half to make it 2–0. Although Ricardo Quaresma pulled one back for Porto in the 78th minute, they couldn’t equalize, and Valencia secured a 2–1 victory, claiming their second Super Cup title.
