The DFB-Pokal winners would typically earn automatic qualification for the group stage of the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League. However, as both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund had already secured qualification for the 2014–15 UEFA Champions League. The Europa League group stage spot was instead awarded to the team that finished seventh in the Bundesliga.
